“White Dragon God, Cherry Blossoms and Waves”

Story

This is a work that we delivered as a ceiling painting for the outer sanctuary of the main hall of Myosho-ji Temple in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture.

This is the largest ceiling painting we have ever created, painted using Eisui's unique clay painting technique.

Myosho-ji Temple is the temple that protects the pond where Myosho Daimyojin is said to have appeared.

It is also the temple that enshrines Myosho Daimyojin, who appeared as an old woman.

It is said that the white dragon flies the fastest among all dragon gods. Therefore, I thought of the white dragon as light, and as a body of energy itself.

The dragon's scales were created by carving each piece using raised coloring.
They are painted with a texture so realistic that it is sensual.

The colored foil and gold material buried in the soil are visible on the lines of the scales depending on the degree of carving, and the location where they shine changes depending on the angle of the light entering the hall, so they show completely different expressions depending on the time of day.

As the temple is extremely famous for its cherry blossoms, the cherry blossoms are depicted peeking through the clouds painted with gold leaf sand, enhancing the gorgeous and beautiful elements of the ceiling painting.
