Pure Lotus Pond of Serenity
Story
公式サイト用なら、少し詩的な余韻を残しながら自然な英語にするとこうなるよ。
Buddhist scriptures describe the ponds of the Pure Land as having beds covered with golden sand, while great lotus flowers of blue, yellow, red, and white bloom upon the water, each radiating light and releasing a delicate fragrance.
When I read this passage, an image unfolded in my mind: **light rising from beneath the water, while the flowers, the water, and the light itself seemed to dissolve into one another.**
To create this vision, I built up layers of raised pigments, embedded various colors of metal leaf and metallic materials into the surface, and then carved back through the layers, creating the impression of countless points of light sleeping beneath the water.
Depending on the angle of view and the changing light, the embedded metal leaf appears and disappears.
In sunlight, tiny points of light seem to rise from the depths, while red, pink, yellow, and purple water lilies drift quietly above.
What I wanted to depict was **a world in which boundaries begin to dissolve, and light, water, and flowers exist while gently merging into one another.**
The octagonal format of the work was inspired by the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path.
