Eisui Exhibition “Melody of the Moon in Colors” Concludes Successfully!

With Heartfelt Gratitude – The Eisui Exhibition “Melody of the Moon in Colors” Has Come to a Close

From the warm late-summer day of September 28th to the slightly chilly breeze of October 2nd, the exhibition was held with great success—thanks to the support of so many wonderful people.

To everyone who visited in person, and to those who sent their kind encouragement from afar—
thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And to the volunteers who helped with setup, daily operations, and behind-the-scenes support—
I truly, truly thank you.
This exhibition would not have been possible without your generosity and dedication.
Please accept my deepest gratitude.

This exhibition, held at the sacred grounds of Zojo-ji Temple, was not intended merely to showcase artworks as one might see in a museum.
Rather, I sought to present each piece as a messenger of the Buddha’s teachings, creating a kind of visual mandala—a collective expression of spiritual insight.

The venue was dimly lit, and the room was gently illuminated by 108 candles.
Through the words of the Buddha woven into each artwork, along with written captions and an optional audio guide, I hope visitors were able to experience the teachings on a deeper, more personal level.

Thank you again to everyone who shared in this meaningful journey.
I hope that the light of the Buddha’s wisdom, gently reflected through these paintings, reached your heart in some small but lasting way.

増上寺特別写仏会(9月30日、10月1日)

One of the most significant elements of this exhibition was the Shabutsu (Buddha-tracing meditation) session, held as a special event.

With great honor, I was given the opportunity to create an original tracing image based on Zojo-ji’s principal deity, the revered Black Honzon (Kuro-Honzon).
Together with 90 participants, we engaged in the quiet and contemplative practice of shabutsu. Following this, a dedication ceremony was held, in which all the traced works were respectfully offered.
The dedication ceremony was held solemnly in the main hall of Zojo-ji Temple.
Each participant was given the honor of personally offering their shabutsu tracing, created with mindful intention under the watchful presence of the Black Honzon (Kuro-Honzon), the principal image of the temple.

The ceremony even included a memorial service for our ancestors—an act of profound gratitude and significance, both for the participants and for myself.

For many who may not ordinarily have a connection to temples or Buddhist practice, I believe this gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to reflect on their ancestors and loved ones who have passed.

During the two-hour session, I encouraged everyone with a simple but powerful practice:
“If you can draw even one single line with calm and steady breath, that alone is a great success today.”

Rather than simply copying the model, participants were invited to breathe through the brush, practicing meditative linework that allows for deeper relaxation and inner connection.

I hope that those who joined us will continue this practice at home—perhaps even adding color and making it their own.
In times of stress and restlessness, I believe this can serve as a gentle method for returning to stillness and reconnecting with oneself.
