This work depicts the phoenix, which is said to raise children as a couple, as a symbol of compassion.

I have often depicted phoenixes and phoenixes looking at each other, but this is the first time I have painted them against such a colourful background.
I aimed to create a space that is gentler and calmer than ever before.

Phoenixes are said to appear out of nowhere when a righteous leader appears and the world is at peace.
In today's world of ongoing heart-wrenching conflicts, I painted this phoenix in the hope that the world will soon see the appearance of this phoenix.


I painted wirth special technique, so the coloured foil shines and looks as if it is clothed in light depending on the time and angle.


The heart shape drawn on the tip of the tail feathers is an inome.
The inome has been used since ancient times as a symbol to ward off evil spirits, and has also been used in the decoration of shrines and temples since ancient times in Japan.

The shape of the two birds facing each other and spreading their wings is also drawn to look like a large heart. The large heart shape gives a cute impression, but also serves as a powerful amulet.



When the work was exhibited at the Ueno Royal Museum Gallery, it was displayed as the main work, with the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara at the centre, the ‘White Dragon and Divine Waves’ on the left and the ‘Phoenix Clouds’ on the right.
