I had the honor of guiding participants of Jōshin Dōjō, a program hosted by Myōhō-ji Temple, in the practice of shabutsu (Buddhist image tracing).

Jōshin Dōjō is held on the first Sunday of every month at Myōhō-ji under the theme “A Valuable Sunday for Polishing the Heart.” It is an open gathering where anyone can participate, offering lectures and workshops led not only by Buddhist priests from various schools who are active on the front lines, but also by distinguished instructors from diverse fields.

I am deeply grateful to have been invited as a lecturer for this special program.

Jōshin Dōjō consists of two parts: the first is a memorial service called kuyō-e, where participants chant sutras together to purify karmic obstacles, and the second offers opportunities to learn Buddhism through practices such as zazen meditation and a variety of workshops.

I also joined from the first part, and after calming my mind through sutra chanting, I was able to guide participants in the practice of shabutsu.

On this occasion, we traced the image of a “lotus blossom” together.

The time passed quickly as everyone became deeply absorbed in the experience, allowing for a meaningful and focused session of shabutsu.
